What
is the
NI Traffic Penalty
Tribunal (NITPT)?
HISTORY
Under the new Traffic Management (NI) Order 2005,
responsibility for the enforcement of illegal parking in
NI has been transferred to the DOE Roads Service. Within
the Roads Service a
Parking Enforcement Processing Unit (PEPU)
has been established to collect parking fines, enforce
non payment and to arbitrate on disputes from vehicle
owners.
THE
NI TRAFFIC PENALTY TRIBUNAL (NITPT)
NITPT is an independent tribunal established within the
Northern Ireland Court Service to consider appeals
against Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) issued by or on
behalf of the Roads Service.
The Tribunal is conducted by an Adjudicator, who is a
qualified solicitor/barrister with at least 5 years'
legal experience. The Adjudicator sits to consider the
issues relevant to each appeal and will then give a decision
based on all the available facts. The decision of the
Adjudicator is binding on both the person who is
appealing and on the Roads Service.
